WILD STATUS
Endangered.
DISTRIBUTION
East Siberia.
SIZE
Males weigh 3-4 kg (6.6-8.8 lbs), females weigh 2.5-3kg (5.5-6.6 lbs).
HABITAT
A variety of habitats such as scrub, semi-desert, secondary vegetation and agricultural areas.
REPRODUCTION
Litters of 1-4 are born after a gestation period of 65-72 days. Commonly two to three are born in a den which may be a hollow tree, small cave or a hole beneath the roots of a fallen tree.
DIET
Amur Leopard Cats feed on hares, rodents, reptiles, birds, fish and young ungulates. They are primarily nocturnal and hunt on the ground and in trees. They are very capable swimmers.
INTERESTING TIDBITS
- Specialized for cold weather. They are specially equipped with the ability to bulk up weight and coat for the winter months.
- Kittens open their eyes about 10 days old and reach sexual maturity at 18 months.
- Being very secretive and there have been few sightings in the wild.
