MEMBERS & FRIENDS ENJOYED AN 'OPEN HOUSE' AT MOUNTAIN VIEW
Langley Field Naturalists presented their Flora and Fauna inventory of our Crown Land area. Their "Biodiversity Report" recorded over 500 species of animals, plants and trees, and we will be publishing their illustrated report, to be made available in our Arts and Gifts Store, as soon as is possible.
Mountain View Conservation Centre also presented the latest news and information about the re-configuration of our Conservation Programs. The main news is that we are preparing a new educational presentation for our visitors to enjoy. Entitled "Biodiversity 2010 and Beyond", we are creating a special presentation about our main Canadian Red-listed Species Conservation Programs, and a new presentation about our Exotic Species Conservation Programs that have done so much over the past 25years to help save the world's exotic species, especially African and Asian species, at the Mountain View Conservation Facility.
Although those exotic species are no longer living at Mountain View, we will nevertheless be staying in touch with them and their host facilities over the years to come. Eventually, we hope to see them return to their natural habitats, thriving in a future that our Society has helped create.

Special Notice:
The Directors have decided to relocate our Exotic Species Conservation Programs that we have operated here for most of the past 25 years. These include the world-renowned Breeding and Recovery programs of the critically endangered Mhorr Gazelle, Addax Antelope, and Scimitar Horned Orynx, and not to forget Ivan, our Indian Rhinoceros. We are moving these Conservation Programs out of Mountain View during this summer, and so this season will be your last opportunity to take a Guided Tour of Mountain View to see all these unique animals, most of whom were born here at the Mountain View Conservation and Breeding Centre.
Canadian Red-Listed Species
From this year on, we will be focusing entirely on Canadian "Red-listed" wildlife species that are facing extinction here in BC, including our Northern Spotted Owls, Oregon Spotted Frogs, and Vancouver Island Marmots. Our visitor tours will include an up to date presentation about these programs, and the latest news about conservation of wildlife and the environment, habitat conservation, and healthy ecosystems, in BC and Canada.
2010 - the International Year of Biodiversity
Mountain View will continue to provide visitors with a fully narrated, educational guided tour of the Wildlife Conservation & Breeding Centre. Mountain View still operates several Canadian "Red-Listed" Wildlife Conservation programs that are saving rare and endangered species from extinction, by breeding and reintroducing them back into their natural habitats here in BC.
We will continue to work with our Government partners and wildlife conservation organizations both locally here in the Township of Langley, BC and Canada, and others around the world.
Our Exotic Species Conservation Programs - A proud Legacy
We started this work almost 25 years ago, have achieved great success, winning many awards here in Canada and the praise of conservationists around the world. Just like proud parents, our Conservation & Education Centre will be staying in touch with these special animals that were born here, and we will be reporting back on their progress to our members and our friends.
The 5th Annual Historic Half Marathon - Feb 21st 2010
A perfect day greeted over 2000 walkers and runners participating in the annual half marathon, the largest group to date. Participants ran though Mountain View and again were impressed at the size and beauty of our Conserveration Centre. For many, it was the first time seeing the facility. Once again, the event started and ended at the Fort Langley Historic Site.
The Historic Half Marathon is BC’s fastest growing half marathon and we have a goal to help make it better every year to keep you coming back over and over again! The 2011 event will the Historic Half Marathon’s 6th anniversary! Don't forget to register early at www.historichalf.ca
