DISTRIBUTION

Eastern Asia from India to the Philippines.

SIZE
Body length:  3.5 cm to 4.5 cm (6-8 inches)
Tail length:  2.5 cm to 3.5 cm (5-6 inches)
Weight:  3.5 to 8 oz. (12 to 24 grams)

HABITAT
Tropical rain forest and secondary growth forests.
 
REPRODUCTION
Gestation 46 to 50 days
Litters are usually 2 young
Sexually active by 4 months of age.

DIET
Insects, fruits, seeds, leaves and occasionally small mammals and lizards.
 
INTERESTING TIDBITS
  • Resembles squirrels in appearance and size.
  • Soft and dense fur ranges in colour from grey to green with whitish or dark chestnut bellies.
  • Toe is not opposable.
  • Tail has long hair.
  • Lives mainly on the ground and builds nests among tree roots and fallen trunk.
  • They live in pairs.
