Calling all would-be Volunteers!

Mountain View would not be the wonderful facility it is without the help of our Volunteers! As the fall approaches are have some openings available. If you are interested and in the vicinity, we will be holding an Open House Information Session on Saturday, August 16, 2008 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. For more information, please call 604-882-9313.

Tim King and Mountain View Conservation Society (MVCS) are offering an opportunity to win a free week at Tim King's Video Camp! Simply write your essay and submit it by e-mail to visit@mtnviewconservation.org. Make sure that ESSAY is in the subject line of the e-mail. There will be winners chosen from each of the categories "Age 8-12" and "Teen" in both of the months of July and August. Each winner will receive one free week at the video camp. Get your entry in early.

tim king's summer photoGRAPHY AND VIDEO camp for YOUTH NOW being offered.

Tim King, the official photographer of Mountain View Conservation Society (MVCS) and Cinemazoo, will be teaching a series of 1-week courses in animal photography and videography throughout the summer. The programs will teach entry level photographic & video skills used to capture great images of the fascinating creatures of Cinemazoo and the endangered species at the MVCS in Fort Langley, BC.
Geared for age range 8 - 12 years and teens.

Low Risk (IUCN Red List rating)

DISTRIBUTION

Eastern Asia from India to the Philippines.

SIZE
Body length: 3.5 cm to 4.5 cm (6-8 inches)
Tail length: 2.5 cm to 3.5 cm (5-6 inches)
Weight: 3.5 to 8 oz. (12 to 24 grams)

HABITAT

Tropical rain forest and secondary growth forests.

REPRODUCTION
Gestation 46 to 50 days
Litters are usually 2 young
Sexually active by 4 months of age.

DIET
Insects, fruits, seeds, leaves and occasionally small mammals and lizards.

INTERESTING TIDBITS

Resembles squirrels in appearance and size.
Soft and dense fur ranges in colour from grey to green with whitish or dark chestnut bellies.
Toe is not opposable.
Tail has long hair.
Lives mainly on the ground and builds nests among tree roots and fallen trunk.
They live in pairs.
