VOLUNTEER POSITIONS
POSITION: VISITOR CENTRE SUPPORT
The Visitor Centre is a hub of activity every day with tours of school children and adults coming thru the centre. We need volunteers who are mature and capable of working with kids and adults in a time stressed, highly energized environment.
Duties include:
1. Provide guided tours of the facility
2. Assist with outreach programs
3. Assist with children’s birthday parties
4. Assist with minor emergencies such as minor cuts and abrasions, bee stings etc
Skills Needed for Visitor Centre Support are:
• Strong people skills
• Enjoy speaking in front of groups – good voice projection
• Multi-lingual an asset
• Good memory, able to retain detailed knowledge of animal background as part of the tour (training is provided)
• Great sense of humor
• Well organized and able to work under time pressure
• Experience as tour guide, public speaking or sales an asset
• Ability to commit to a consistent schedule as tour guide an asset
POSITION: OFFICE SUPPORT
• Computer skills with MS Word, Excel and Outlook
• Attention to detail and accuracy
• Strong keyboarding skills
• Well organized and able to work unsupervised
• Able to commit to a consistent time and day for office support ( 3-5 hrs/week)
• Good phone skills and attention to details
• Good communicator with management, staff and keepers
POSITIONS: BOOTH ATTENDEES AT FAIRS AND SPECIAL EVENTS
Looking for 2 person teams – great opportunity for couples or friends to volunteer together
• Very comfortable speaking to strangers about Mountain View
• Outgoing, sales minded, charming
• Willing to explain our mission to others to encourage donations, tours and membership
• Like dealing with families and children
• Organized and able to commit to scheduled events
• Has own transportation
• Physically able to setup/taken down small booth/tent
POSITION: GROUNDS MAINTENANCE AND KEEPER SUPPORT
This position includes the following types of work:
• Assist in preparing food for feedings
• Clean pens/fields
• Cut grass
• Mend fences and other basic maintenance handywork
• Direct traffic and greet people at the main gate for tour arrivals
• Provide adhoc support around the property as needed
Skills
• Able to operate tractors
• General handyman skills
• Able to commit to a set schedule ( such as: one morning a week)
• Physically capable of handling manual labour
